Buchanan High in California secured its seventh consecutive Division 1 girls team title by sweeping the top five spots and placing six athletes in the top eight in a 15-61 victory against Clovis North High at the Central Section Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. Elle Lomeli, a junior, captured the individual crown by covering the 5-kilometer layout in 17:44.05, Stefania Sesock was second in 18:18.35, freshman Molly Sundgren took third in 18:25.50, Tayler Torosian finished fourth in 18:26.60, Avery Hutchison placed fifth in 18:33.79 and Sierra Cornett earned eighth in 18:55.79 for the Bears, who achieved their 21st Division 1 championship and 25th in program history, including a Division 3 crown in 1993 and Division 2 titles from 1994-96. Buchanan will attempt to defend its Division 1 title Nov. 25 at the CIF State Championships at Woodward Park.
