Derek Smith, a senior at Buchanan High in California, finished third in the boys invitational discus throw with a second-round effort of 189 feet (57.60m) at the 56th Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High in California. Smith also secured seventh place in the invitational shot put with a mark of 56-0.50 (17.08m) in the second round.
